Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that they are developing a third “Frozen” film, which will bring together Elsa, Anna, Sven and Olaf back together again for another adventure. Since the initial release of “Frozen” in 2014, it spawned a sequel, along with multiple shorts, a musical and a whole-themed land at its theme parks.

This week, during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer, Jennifer Lee, revealed that she will not be returning to direct the third instalment in the “Frozen” franchise as during an interview with The Wrap, she revealed:

“I can’t say where we are [with “Frozen 3.” All our stories are driven by the artists in the studio. Where we’re going with ‘Frozen’ did not come from me. It came from an incredible person. That’s a new piece; I’ve told no one. And I’ve been blown away by it, and I’m just having a blast with that team,” she said.

But the good news is that she will be involved in the project, but as an advisor:

“I’m doing what I do with all the other projects. It’s really fun on ‘Frozen,’…cause we’ve lived the world for awhile together and a lot of the artists in the studio grew up with that film too, both of them, and have been there the whole way…They kinda own them as much as anyone else.”

Her role as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer does keep her busy, and this might be why she isn’t able to direct the film, but that doesn’t mean she won’t direct a film again in the future.

“I would love to direct again. I know someday I want to be a filmmaker again. I’m old but I’m not that old! I’ve only done two films and I do believe there’s a time — I’ll know it — but there’s a time when you give everything you can and then you make room for innovation of the next person. I can’t imagine anywhere but Disney.”

Hopefully, we get to see more details on the third “Frozen” film soon, but in the meantime, you can watch the original films on Disney+ now.
