During the height of the streaming wars, exclusively was one of the major selling points, with each studio hoarding its own back catalogue to boost its own streaming services.  However, things are slowly reverting back, as Disney has been licensing out more of its older content to other platforms.

Paramount has announced that two classic 20th Television shows, “The X-Files” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” will be coming to Paramount+ in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. This non-exclusive licensing deal means the shows will still be available to stream on Disney+, similar to recent deals with Channel 4, ITV, Stan, and the BBC.

“The X-Files” tells the story of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, two special FBI agents, probe into cases that have been left unresolved. While Mulder believes in the paranormal, Scully settles for a more scientific approach.

“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is about Buffy Summers, who tries to live a normal life in high school while embracing her responsibilities and destiny as a hunter of vampires and demons.

Disney has softened its approach to licensing out content, especially older shows from its 20th Century Studios and ABC, in an effort to increase profits for its division, which had seen its licensing revenues shrink following its decision to keep everything exclusive to its own streaming services.

While Disney is licensing out some of its older content, its core franchises, like Marvel and Star Wars, are still being kept exclusive to Disney+.
