20th Television is developing a brand-new series, “Interior Chinatown”, which is being created by Charles Yu, who is the author of the best-selling book of the same name.
In the new series, Jimmy O.Yang will be playing the role of Willis Wu, who is a background actor in a procedural cop show called Black & White. Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables and dreaming about a whole world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, and in the process discovers what it feels like to be in the spotlight. Jimmy O.Yang has previously starred in “Crazy Rich Asians“.
It has also been announced that Ronny Chieng and Chloe Bennet have joined the cast of the series.
Chloe Bennet will be playing the role of Detective Lana Lee, who is a new lead making her debut appearance in the procedural cop show Black & White. Lana brings a new energy to the series’ reliable but overworked premise. She has previously starred in the Marvel series, “Agents Of Shield”.
Ronny Chieng will play the role of Fatty Choi, who is Willis’s best friend, whose passions include video games and malted beverages. He has previously starred in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and the Disney+ Original series, “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.”
The creator, Charler Yu, will also be an executive producer, along with Taika Waititi, who will also direct the pilot episode. Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Elsie Choi, Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite, and Garrett Basch will also serve as executive producers on the show.
“Interior Chinatown” will be released on Hulu, and since it’s a 20th Television production, we should expect to see the series released as a Star Original internationally on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.
