Disney has announced details on the upcoming “ABC News Presidential Debate | Race for the White House”, which will air live on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, from 9:00-10:40 p.m. EDT on ABC and stream live on ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu, as well as connected TV and mobile apps.

The debate will also be available on demand for Disney+ and Hulu subscribers beginning Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.

This debate, between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, will be taking place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

It will be moderated by “World News Tonight’s” David Muir and ABC News anchor Linsey Davis.  There will also be a pre-debate special, “Race for the White House”, will be anchored by Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce, and Rachel Scott.   This pre-debabe special will air live at 8PM EDT.

ABC News hasn’t announced if the debate will also include a live studio audience. The last debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump took place on CNN back in June, didn’t include a live audience and had strict rules for the two Presidential candidates to comply with.   A third debate is planned for October, plus there will also be a debate between the Vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz on CBS-News on October 1st 2024, which is going to be taking place in New York and to be moderated by Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan.

Earlier this month, Disney announced that ABC News Live will be available to Disney+ core subscriptions in the United States from September 4th, 2024.   One of the major reasons why the live news channel is being added to Disney+ is to try to take advantage of the election, where interest in the news will be at its peak and also increase viewership.  It’s also hoped that the introduction of ABC News Live will help increase overall engagement within the Disney+ app and offer more value for money to subscribers.

Roger’s Take: Getting ABC News Live available on Disney+ just in time for the US election is no doubt going to help increase viewership, and it also continues to blur the lines between Disney+ and Hulu.   No doubt this debate is going to be an interesting event to watch, and considering how the last one was so influential in how it resulted in a complete U-turn by the Democrats, there are going to be a lot of people watching this debate, so making it available on as many platforms as possible is vital.
