“Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends” To End After One Season
Disney’s been having some huge success with its animated preschool shows, and one of those titles is “Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends”, which is the first preschool Iron Man series featuring a young Tony Stark (Iron Man) and his world-saving besties, Riri Williams (Ironheart) and Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk). The series follows the adventures (and misadventures) of the best friends and super geniuses as they work together to solve problems both big and small and protect their city.
To help them in their Super Hero endeavors, they each have their own Iron Suits that allow them to fly and give them each enhanced super-strength. In addition, Iron Man has a Nano-Shield; Ironheart has a Heartbeat Bubble forcefield to protect people, and Iron Hulk has his strong Iron Boom clap and Iron Hulk Stomp. They work out of their beachfront base, Iron Quarters (IQ), under the supervision of their superpowered android, Vision, and their furry pup, Gamma, who has her very own Iron Pup suit and accompanies the Iron Friends on many of their adventures.
The series stars Mason Blomberg and Lincoln Bonilla as Tony Stark (Iron Man), Kapri Ladd as Riri Williams (Ironheart), Aidyn Ahn as Amadeus Cho (Iron Hulk), Tony Hale as Ultron, Vanessa Bayer as Swarm, and Talon Warburton as Absorbing Man.
Unfortunately, it looks like the show is coming to an end after one season, as the show’s co-executive producer, James Eason-Garcia, confirmed that the show has come to an end:
And that’s a wrap! On February 22, 2022, I started writing my pitch for an animated preschool series based on Iron Man. While of course I had high hopes for my ideas, what I couldn’t have planned on was the totally awesome journey I was starting that would last the next four years. I have learned so much, grown even more as a creator and a leader, and found strength in myself I didn’t know I had. Mostly thanks to the amazing creative partners who have been by my side each and every day.
The list of people I have to thank would be too long to type out here but everyone knows how much they have mattered to me in helping this series come to life (because I make sure to tell them every chance I get!) In all, we produced eighty 11-minute stories and 20 shorts, telling the adventures of the Iron Friends and the misadventures of their hilarious rogues gallery. We really wanted to create a series that showed kids that no matter what problem you faced, it was only a challenge that was easier to overcome with friends by your side. What I’m most proud of is that we accomplished this on the show itself and behind the scenes.
No matter the problems we encountered, I was lucky enough to have a fantastic crew of friends by my side to tackle each and every challenge. That joy, happiness, and camaraderie comes across on each and every frame of animation. And for that, I could not be more grateful. It’s a bittersweet day for sure, but I’m excited to see what new challenges there are to tackle and all the cool people I will get to face them with in the future. There are still plenty of episodes left to be released so fans of the show have much more of this wonderful series left to enjoy. Normally Iron Man gets to say this on the show but since it’s my last day, I think it’s my turn: “Iron Friends…it’s time to Armor Up!”Now and forever!
While it’s never good to hear a show is coming to an end, the good news is that the crew working on the show are now moving onto the next instalment in the franchise, “Avengers Mightiest Friends” and also give younger audiences plenty more adventures to enjoy next year, especially as Iron Man and his friends can just join the “Avengers” team.
I’m not too surprised to see this show is coming to a close after one season, as while having Iron Man as one of the central characters is the main draw, having Ironheart and Iron Hulk as his awesome friends just isn’t really what most kids (and their families) are going to be drawn to. Moving Iron Man over to an Avengers series makes more sense commercially.
The first batch of episodes was released on Disney+ late last year, and a new batch of episodes dropped onto the streaming service last month.
Plus, there looks to still be another batch of episodes on the way in the future, as James mentions they made eighty eleven minute episodes, though currently thirty episodes of “Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends” are available to stream now on Disney+, with each episode consisting of two episodes, that means we have at least 20 more stories, or ten more episodes to go.
