Sofia Black-D’Elia Reacts To “Single Drunk Female” Cancellation
Following the news that Disney’s Freeform had cancelled the comedy series, “Single Drunk Female”, after two seasons, the show’s star, Sofia Black-D’Elia, took to social media to share her thoughts on the cancellation.
I’m so sad the SDF journey has been cut short. I’ve loved making this show. I’m grateful to everyone who was apart of it. To anyone who watched: thank you. To anyone who stopped me on the street to tell me how much time they had or how annoying their mom was: I love you.
The show’s creator Simone Finch also took to social media to share her thoughts on the cancellation:
All I can say is the last four years have been a whirlwind. I’m so grateful to @freeform for believing in Samantha Fink and the transformational power of sobriety. I am also grateful to the producers, writers, cast and crew who made my vision a reality. And finally, to anyone who wants to get sober, or stay sober – it’s possible, and better, than any drunk day
The series follows 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink, who, after a public flame-out at a New York media company, is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol. Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all of the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend, who is now dating her ex, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.
“Single Drunk Female” stars Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ally Sheedy, Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington and Garrick Bernard. The series comes from 20th Television and is created by Simone Finch (“The Connors”), who executive produces along with Jenni Konner (“Girls,” “Camping”), Daisy Gardner (“Silicon Valley,” “The Goldbergs”), Phil Traill (“Good Girls”), Nora Silver and Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”).
The series was released on Freeform and Hulu in the United States, while internationally, it was released as a Star Original on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world. Unfortunately, just hours after the cancellation was announced, both seasons of “Single Drunk Female” were removed from Disney’s streaming services worldwide as part of an impairment charge, which means the show is written off as a tax write-off.
