Marvel Reveals “Ghost Rider” Film At SDCC

Over the years, popular actor Ryan Gosling, who has recently starred in “Barbie” and “Project Hail Mary,” along with the upcoming movie, “Star Wars: Starfighter”, has been very vocal about wanting to play his favourite comic book character, Ghost Rider.

During Marvel Studios’ presentation in Hall H at the San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige took to the stage to reveal a massive surprise to those in attendance, confirming that after many years of lobbying, Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play the role of Ghost Rider.   

“Wow, is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”

It was also confirmed that Shawn Levy will be directing the film, having recently worked with Ryan on the new Star Wars film and worked with Marvel on “Deadpool & Wolverine”.    Shawn took to the stage and also revealed that Jonathan Tropper is writing the script for the new film, having previously worked together on the new Star Wars.  Jonathan has also recently worked on “Your Friends & Neighbors”.   

“As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing.  And I finally said, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ So guys, we’ll see you in 2028.”

Fans won’t have too long to wait for the new film, as Kevin Feige revealed that “Ghost Rider” will be hitting cinemas in 2028, so will likely also arrive on Disney+ a few months later.    This movie will also probably be the kickoff to the next phase in the MCU after the Multiverse saga comes to a close with “Secret Wars” in 2027.

This won’t be the first time that the “Ghost Rider” has appeared on our screens, as Nicholas Cage starred in two films, previously made by Sony, while the character was also featured in Marvel’s “Agents Of Shield” series.  

Roger’s Take:   I’ve always liked the Ghost Rider character, and I think Ryan’s going to bring something fun to our screens, though this could also be a great way of bringing the Midnight Sons team to fruition.  While “Blade” never got that far into production, I’ve little doubt that Marvel has learned from that mistake and this new film will hit the screens as planned.
