Disney’s 20th Century Studios has picked up the rights to make a movie adaptation of “Ripped”, which is a short story by Joe Ballarini that’s about a insecure man who, in anticipation of his wedding day, enters a hardcore underground training facility led by a magnetic fitness guru, who commands cult like devotion with the promise of peak performance at any cost.

The film is going to be produced by 12:01 Films and Seven Bucks, which has a first-look deal with Walt Disney Studios and is behind many projects including “Behind The Attraction”, “Jungle Cruise” and the upcoming live-action adaptation of “Moana”.

According to THR, “Ripped” will be executive produced by Seven Bucks’ Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and Hiram Garcia, along with 12:01’s Scott Glassgold.  Melissa Fried and Frankie Chiapperino will oversee the project for Seven Bucks.

In a separate deal, the short story will also be adapted into a novel by Joe Ballarin at 12:01 Books. Joe has previously worked on Netflix’s “A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting” and is behind Amazon’s upcoming movie, “The Bluff.”

Since the deal is still new, no other details about the project, such as who will star in it, or who will direct it, when it might get filmed and when it’ll be released, either in cinemas or direct onto Disney+/Hulu.
