Disney has announced details on a new South Korean Disney+ Original series called “Uncle Samsik”, which follows San, an ambitious idealist who is driven to turn his country’s fortunes around. He attracts the attention of Pak Doochill (Uncle Samsik), a shady fixer who takes whatever steps necessary to help him accomplish his boss’s goals. Together, the pair form an uneasy alliance, navigating the complexities of the established system, united by their shared goal of a prosperous future.

The upcoming 16-episode series will premiere in the first half of this year.  The series will be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ everywhere else in the world.

This new series will star Song Kang-ho, who has previously starred in “Parasite”, and he will be playing the title role of Uncle Samsik.  This will be the first time Song Kang-ho has appeared in a drama series, having previously worked on films and in theatre productions.  

It’s also been revealed that Byun Yo-han will also be starring in the series as Kim San.  Also starring in the series will be Seo Hyun, Jin Gi-ju, and Lee Kyu-hyeong.

“Uncle Samsik” is being created by Slingshot Studios and is being written and directed by Shin Yeonshick, who has previously worked on “Cobweb” and “Cassiopeia”.

Disney has been heavily involved in creating new original content in Korea, with huge successes with “Moving”, “Snowdrop” and “Shadow Detective”.  Which has helped Disney+ become one of the most popular streaming services in Korea.
