Disney has announced some new details on its upcoming Korean original series, ‘Uncle Samsik’, which will see one of Korea’s biggest movie stars, Song Kang-ho, making his television debut.

The upcoming series is set in 1960s Korea, the series follows Kim San, an ambitious idealist who is driven to turn his country’s fortunes around. A recipient of an Albright Scholarship, San wants nothing more than to transform his country into an industrial nation and deliver an American level of affluence to the people of Korea. Determined to become a success, San attracts the attentions of Pak Doochill (Uncle Samsik) a shady fixer who adapts to any situation and takes whatever steps necessary to help him accomplish his goals. Together, the pair will form an uneasy alliance, navigating the complexities of the established system, united by their shared goal of a prosperous future.

‘Uncle Samsik’ is going to be directed by Shin Yeon-shick, who has previously worked on “The Russian Novel” and “Cobweb”. The series will also star Byun Yohan, who has previously starred as “Mr. Sunshine” and “Six Flying Dragons”.

The new Korean series is going to premiere with five episodes on May 15th on Disney+ around the world and on Hulu/Hulu On Disney+ in the United States. There will be two episodes released each week, with a three part finale dropping onto the streaming services on June 19th 2024.
