One of the many Marvel Studios animated shows announced during Disney+ Day in 2021 was “Marvel’s Zombies”, which reimagines the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battling against an ever-spreading zombie scourge.

The series has spawned out from an episode of the first season of “What If?” and explores an alternative timeline with Marvel heroes are going to go up against a bunch of Zombies.

This new four-episode series will feature a wide selection of characters, including Yelena, Katy, Kate Bishop, Jimmy Woo, Death Dealer, Shang-Chi, and Kamala Khan, who are trying to save the world from a lineup of Zombies that include Hawkeye, Abomination, Ghost, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Okoye, and Ikaris.

The upcoming animated series is directed by Executive Producer Bryan Andrews and written by Executive Producer Zeb Wells.

While we’ve not heard too much about this project since last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, recently, Iman Vellani, who plays Ms Marvel in the live-action Disney+ series, spoke about the upcoming “Marvel Zombies” series with The Direct, while promoting the new movie, “The Marvels”.

Iman confirmed that she had completed voice work for the series and also revealed that Kamala will be one of the main characters as “kind of the centre of the show:”

“We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the ‘Marvel Zombies’ show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.’”

With such a massive lineup of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iman confirmed her character gets to meet many cool characters along the way.

“And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”

As a huge fan of Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel, I think having her as one of the main characters in this series sounds like it’s going to be a big hit for fans. Her passion for Marvel on the whole, will likely help elevate the show.

Unfortunately, we don’t know too much more about the upcoming “Marvel Zombies” series. Originally, it was revealed to be coming out in 2024, but with all the delays and Marvel trying to spread out its content more, it’s likely we might have to wait a little longer to see the upcoming “Marvel Zombies” series.
