Marvel’s Kevin Feige Teases “X-Men” Joining The MCU
Ever since Disney purchased 20th Century Studios back in 2019, Marvel fans have been excited about the introduction of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Back at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, it was confirmed that an “X-Men” movie was going to be coming, but after the Multiverse saga was over. However, Marvel has already begun introducing the mutants, with cameos and easter eggs in “Ms Marvel, “The Marvels”, and “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”.
Later this week, Marvel Studios will be releasing “Deadpool & Wolverine”, which will introduce characters from the 20th Century Studios “X-Men” movies into the multiverse. During a recent interview with Gizmodo, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about how Marvel is deciding what mutants will make up the new team when they finally debut.
“Well, it’s that phrase we use often at Marvel, which is, ‘It’s an embarrassment of riches,’ and there are a lot of great X-Men characters in the Deadpool & Wolverine film. There are a lot of great X-Men characters in all of the Fox versions of the X-Men films. And there are a lot of great X-Men characters that have never gone on the big screen.
So I think as we always try to do, as we did when we made the arrangement with Sony for Spider-Man , you’ll probably see a mix of characters you’ve seen before and characters you’ve never seen before. I think the success of X-Men ’97 was really exciting for us to see people revisit and reconnect with that world and, dare I say, the soap opera elements of that world, which is one of the things that’s so exciting to us about jumping into it finally in the MCU.”
This coming weekend, Marvel Studios is going to be hosting a presentation in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, where it will be providing an update on the upcoming schedule, though I suspect we won’t get much information ton the next phase after the Multiverse Saga ends.
Roger’s Take: With the post-credit scene of “The Marvels”, and the introduction of Professor X in “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”, we certainly are getting plenty of teases of the “X-Men”, without really getting them properly. I do think that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is going to help set up whatever is coming up next within the Multiverse saga, and I wouldn’t be surprised if both characters return for the next Avengers movies, and “Deadpool & Wolverine” wraps up that 20th Century era for the characters. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.
