Marvel’s Kevin Feige Reveals Bad News On “Eternals” Sequel
Ever since the release of Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” in 2021, many fans have questioned when we might characters like Sersi, Makkari, and Kingo would return to our screens and when Marvel would address the massive giant Celestial that emerged from the centre of the Earth.
During a recent trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World”, eagle-eyed fans spotted the remains of Tiamut in the background as Captain America flew overhead.
Recently, as part of an interview to promote the new film, “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed to Inverse that fans were right about the trailer. However, he also gave some bad news about when we might see “Eternals” return.
“There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2,. There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgement of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.”
Unfortunately, when “Eternals” was released in cinemas, it failed to ignite the box office, though it was released during the pandemic. Over the years, the film has received lots of positive feedback as audiences have discovered the movie; however, because of how the film is very different to anything else released by Marvel, it looks like it might just be too risky to bring these characters back.
However, I do think they will need to address the introduction of Harry Styles as Thanos’s brother Eros, aka Starfox, and the easter egg setting up the introduction of “Blade”.
This weekend, Marvel Studios is hosting a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where we will likely get an update on the Marvel schedule and with D23: The Ultimate Fan Event taking place in a month, between the two events, we will likely know a little more about how the Multiverse Saga is going to come to a close.
Roger’s Take: It’s a real shame we aren’t going to see a follow-up to “Eternals” anytime soon, especially with it being left open-ended for a sequel. However, with Marvel drastically pulling back how many projects it releases, it makes sense that anything not central to the core Multiverse storyline and not guaranteed to be a huge box office hit is put on the back burner. It would be great to see the characters pop up in some other projects, but with way, too many new characters being introduced in the Multiverse Saga, I don’t think the “Eternals” are big enough hits to warrant them returning.
You can watch “Eternals” on Disney+ now!
