Tyler Perry Provides An Update On “Sister Act 3” Disney+ Original Film
This past week, Tyler Perry was a guest on “The View” and provided an update on the upcoming third instalment in the “Sister Act” franchise.
The Disney+ Original was initially announced at the Investor Day event in 2020, and development is currently underway. The film will see Whoopi Goldberg return as Deloris, and it will be directed by Tim Federle, who is behind the “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”. Tyler Perry will be a producer on the new film.
In the original film, A Reno singer witnesses a mob murder and the cops stash her in a nunnery to protect her from the mob’s hitmen. The mother superior does not trust her, and takes steps to limit her influence on the other nuns. Eventually, the singer rescues the failing choir and begins helping with community projects, which gets her an interview on TV—and identification by the mob.
Tyler Perry explained why the film is taking a little longer to make than he wanted:
“I love the idea of us making this happen but you know, the Hollywood system moves a little slower than I’d like to. So we’ve got a good script. We’re off to a great start. We’re just trying to get everybody moving in the right direction so we can get it going.”
Whoopi Goldberg also explained why the project has taken over 20 years, to get off the ground:
“They were sort of lukewarm for the longest time [about making the movie], they said nobody wanted to see it and then Tyler went in and said, ‘I want to see it.’ Next thing I knew, we were on. That’s the power of TP.”

Earlier this week, Jenifer Lewis also appeared on “The View” and discussed making the new “Sister Act” film.
Both “Sister Act” films are available to watch now on Disney+.
