Development on the third “Sister Act” for Disney+ is currently underway and it will see Whoopi Goldberg return as Deloris. Tyler Perry is also involved in creating the film and Tim Federle will be directing it.
In the original film, A Reno singer witnesses a mob murder and the cops stash her in a nunnery to protect her from the mob’s hitmen. The mother superior does not trust her, and takes steps to limit her influence on the other nuns. Eventually, the singer rescues the failing choir and begins helping with community projects, which gets her an interview on TV—and identification by the mob.
During a recent episode of “The View”, Whoopi Goldberg shared her desire to work with Jenifer Lewis on the third “Sister Act” film.
“You know we’re still going to do that movie. And I’d do everything I can to work with her because she’s fun.”
Jenifer Lewis, appeared on the program to promote her new book, “Walking in My Joy: In These Streets”.
Also, in the interview, Jenifer shared a story about how she taught Whoopi Goldberg how to sing in the original film and said she was “so ready” to film the upcoming Disney+ Original film.
“They were going to use my voice and I told Whoopi, ‘Look, you just get in this mirror with the two of us, and you just get a hairbrush and pretend that we’re 15 years old singing Gladys Knight and the Pips,’ and Whoopi did it, she sang her little booty off,”
The third instalment of the franchise was announced in 2020, but there haven’t been any updates about the film for a while.
Both “Sister Act” films are available to watch now on Disney+.
