Disney’s Searchlight Television has signed a new first-look deal with Oscar award-winning director, Chloé Zhao, who previously worked together on “Nomadland”, to create exclusive new series for Disney’s platforms, which will include Disney+ and Hulu.

Searchlight Presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said in a statement:

“Chloe is a visionary filmmaker and, since the moment we finished Nomadland, we have looked to find new ways to collaborate again.  We are inspired by the breadth of Chloe’s storytelling passions and are beyond happy to be able to link arms and expand the opportunities to support personal, powerful, and enduring stories.”

Chloé Zhao has also directed Marvel’s “The Eternals” and “The Rider”.

Searchlight Television’s first series, “The Dropout”, was a critical and commercial success for Disney, with the series winning many awards, including an Emmy.  The studio is also creating a new series “History of the World, Part II” and a follow-up series to the British cult classic, “The Full Monty”.   These series are being released on Hulu in the United States and as Star Originals on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.
