There have been reports of a “Spider-Man 4” being in development by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures since the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”,  but nothing has been officially announced.

This past weekend, Tom Holland participated in the third annual Sands International Film Festival in St Andrews, Scotland. He attended the first screening of a new short, “Last Call, “which he starred in and directed by his brother, Harry. During the event, the brothers also participated in the first annual Sands golf tournament with Joe Russo, who was one of the co-directors of “Avengers: Endgame.”

During the weekend, Tom spoke with Deadline, who gave him an update on the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films.  I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.”

And following up on the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, which was a huge box office success and brought together Andrew Garfield and Toby McGuire to do battle with multiple villains from the Spider-Verse.

“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect.  The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.  This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.”

There have been rumours that Sony wants to rush a new “Spider-Man” film into production to get it out by next year, but at least now we know things are underway, and maybe at this year’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event, we will get an official confirmation, but Tom’s comments certainly indicate he’s returning.

Ned and MJ, along with the rest of the world, except for Doctor Strange, know that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, so that will likely play a part in the new film, but also, hopefully, return Spider-Man to being more of a street level hero, without all the Stark tech.
