Third “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” Title Officially Announced
Last week, Sony Pictures revealed it was delaying the release of the two sequels to the animated Marvel film, “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse”.
And this week, during a Sony Pictures presentation at CinemaCon, the film’s creators, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, took to the stage to announce that the third film, which was initially called “Across The Spider-Verse” Part 2, will now be called “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse”.
It was also confirmed that Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 would be featured in “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse”. It was also confirmed that the film will have over 240 characters in it and that it takes place in 6 universes. Sony has over 1,000 people working on creating the film.
Here are some photos from the Sony Pictures presentation at CinemaCon:
The two sequels will be released exclusively in theatres on the following dates:
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – June 2, 2023
- Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – March 29, 2024
The first “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” film was a massive success for Marvel and Sony. In the movie, after gaining superpowers from a spider bite, Miles Morales protects the city as Spider-Man. Soon, he meets alternate versions of himself and gets embroiled in an epic battle to save the multiverse.
Due to a multi-year contract for the US Pay two window rights, any new Sony Pictures film being released between 2022 and 2026 will be available to Disney to distribute on Disney+, Hulu and traditional linear television channels, after a theatrical and pay one window release on Netflix. So since both of these new “Spider-Man” animated films are being released within that period, they will be eligible to come to Disney+ in the US for a limited period, around two years after their initial release.
