The three-season curse continues with news that the Disney Original series, “Secrets Of Sulphur Springs”, won’t be returning for a fourth season, according to Deadline.

“Secrets Of Sulphur Springs” is set in the fictional Louisiana town of Sulphur Springs. The series follows 12-year-old Griffin Campbell, whose world has been upended by his father, Ben. Ben has moved the family from Chicago to take ownership of an abandoned hotel property, The Tremont. The Campbell family, which also includes Griffin’s mother, Sarah, and his younger twin siblings, Wyatt and Zoey, moves into The Tremont in hopes of restoring it to the lively vacation destination it once was.

On his first day at his new school, Griffin hears rumours that the hotel is haunted by the ghost of Savannah (Elle Graham, “Swamp Thing”), a girl who disappeared decades ago. He soon meets and befriends Harper (Kyliegh Curran, “Doctor Sleep”), a thrill-seeking classmate, and soon they discover a secret portal that allows them to travel back in time and uncover clues about the town mystery.

The series stars Preston Oliver (“This is Us”) as Griffin Campbell, Kyliegh Curran (“Doctor Sleep”) as Harper Dunn, Elle Graham (“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”) as Savannah Dillon, Kelly Frye (“Criminal Minds”) as Sarah Campbell, Josh Braaten (“American Horror Story”) as Ben Campell, Landon Gordon (“Top Gun: Maverick”) as Wyatt Campbell, Madeleine McGraw (“Black Phone”) as Zoey Campbell, Diandra Lyle (“American Woman”) as Jess Dunn, Johari Washington (“The Walk-On’s”) as Topher Dunn and Eugene Byrd (“Bones”) as Sam Tremont.

The first season of “Secrets Of Sulphur Springs” was released on the Disney Channel and Disney+ in January 2021, with new seasons dropping in early 2022 and 2023, but with no news on a fourth season for a while, it’s been confirmed that the show wouldn’t be returning.

It’s rare that many Disney Channel shows get past a third season since costs drastically increase and also, especially with shows featuring younger actors, there is only a limited window of opportunity to film them before they either get too old for the role or want to move onto other things.    This is also similar for the audience, who, like the cast, get older and move on to other things.

This is the latest cancellation of a Disney Channel show, following news that “Bunk’d” and “Saturdays” were also not returning for more seasons.  Disney is now focusing on building out its multicam strategy, Disney-owned IP, and global tentpole programming, with shows like the upcoming “Wizards Of Waverly Place” sequel series.

All three seasons of “Secrets Of Sulphur Springs” are available to stream on Disney+ now.
