Following the box office failures of “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania”, plus with reports of Marvel Studios scaling back the number of projects it releases in the future, across theatrical and Disney+, there has been lots of focus on the next set of “Avengers” films, “Kang Dynasty” and “Secret Wars”, which will close out the Multiverse Saga.

With the use of the Multiverse, many fans speculate that this is a unique opportunity for Marvel to rewrite history and bring back some of the characters from the original Avengers film, including Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow.     The Multiverse would allow for the characters to be recast or potentially for Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr to return to their roles.

Last week, Chris Evans responded to the speculation that the original Avengers were going to be reunited, saying,

“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me.  I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and Hemsworth, and Scarlet [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!”

And during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke about how bringing back Robert Downey Jr just wouldn’t feel right:

““We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,  We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Bringing back Iron Man to our screens is no doubt going to be something Marvel is eventually going to do, and we’ve seen many different actors play other more well-known characters like Spider-Man, Superman and Batman, but we’ve never seen a major recasting with the MCU, but with the Multiverse, it’ll be very easy for Marvel to bring in an alternative version of Iron Man, Black Widow or Captain America for a new generation.

However, never say never. We never thought we’d see Tobey McGuire or Andrew Garfield back as Spider-Man or Michael Keaton back as Batman, but it’s happened!

While we might not see Robert Downey Jr return as Iron Man in the future, you can watch all of his previous adventures on Disney+ now.
