One of the many projects currently in development by Marvel Studios is “Fantastic Four”, which was initially announced during the Investor Day in 2020, but since then, we’ve heard very little about how the development of the film is going, except for confirmation at last year’s D23 Expo that Matt Shakman was going to be directing it.

During a recent interview with Collider, Matt was asked about an update on the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film, to which he replied:

“Yes, we are definitely gonna go in front of cameras next year. Probably the spring.”

With the actor’s strike still ongoing, the cast for the film hasn’t been officially announced, even though there have been many rumours about who might be starring as Marvel’s first family. Matt has confirmed that once the strike is resolved, we will find out who will be playing Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing and The Human Torch.

Hard to say. Like I said, we’re in the middle of a SAG strike, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they get a great deal really soon and we can go back. Then, once that’s resolved, there’ll be a plan at that point, but I can’t say too much. There will be an announcement at some point! I know that the internet is very excited to find out, and I’m excited to share it. I just can’t do it yet.

Matt went on to share more details on the current plan for filming “Fantastic Four”, which is going to be filmed at the Pinewood Studios in London. While the writer’s and actor’s strikes have slowed down work on many projects, Matt also explained that he’s still been “working with the effects and with production design and building [the film’s] world:”

“London. Pinewood. We have been nonstop. Despite the strikes, yes, we’ve been working with the effects and with production design and building our world, and that’s been incredibly exciting. You know, how do you translate those skills into live-action in dynamic ways? Because some things that work beautifully in John Byrne and Jack Kirby are a little tougher when you’re filming them. How do you make sure that things are exciting but also grounded in a scientific thing, which is also part of the Fantastic Four that I love? There’s some stuff I’m super excited about. I can’t say too much, you know?”

Currently, “Fantastic Four” is scheduled to be released in cinemas on May 2nd, 2025, but depending on when the actor’s strike comes to an end, this could likely change as “Deadpool 3”, “Captain America: A Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” is scheduled to be released before “Fantastic Four”, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if all of the films get a bump in release dates.

While we wait for the official debut of the Fantastic Four in the MCU, you can check out their previous adventures in the 20th Century Studios films, plus the animated series from the 1980s and even a special appearance of Mr Fantastic in “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”.
