Earlier this month, on Valentine’s Day, after much speculation, Marvel Studios announced the cast of the upcoming movie, “The Fantastic Four”, which will see Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch.

It was also revealed that Ebon Moss-Bachrach would make up the final member of the first family in Marvel and that he’d be playing Ben Grimm, aka “The Thing”.

Recently, the actor, who also stars in the hit FX series, “The Bear”, appeared on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show, where he discussed the FX series, winning an Emmy and shared some insight into his new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During the interview, Ebon tells a story about where he was when he found out he had the role, which was in August of last year, but it’s likely the announcement was delayed due to the actor’s strikes.

He also confirmed that he had read the story of the film but didn’t go into any more details, confirming that the artwork does look like it’s set in the 1960s, but didn’t go into any details.

Ebon confirmed that in the upcoming movie, his character, “The Thing”, will be created using motion capture rather than a physical suit.

“In the past, I think they’ve done a suit. Michael Chiklis wore a suit that apparently was really uncomfortable, and it’s kind of… we’re past that.  It’s a little kind of cosplay, kind of amateur that kind of stuff now with the technology we have.”

20th Century Fox released three movies prior to Disney purchasing the company, with Michael Chiklis playing the role of “The Thing” twice, and in the most recent film, “Fant4stic”, Jamie Bell played the character, though during filming, he wore a tracking suit and stilts to match the height and eye-line of “The Thing”. These movies are available to stream now on Disney+.

This isn’t the first time Ebon Moss-Bachrach has starred in a Marvel project, as he also played David Lieberman, aka Micro, in the Netflix series, “The Punisher”.
