AdWeek has revealed early details on Walt Disney Television’s upcoming “Upfront” events.  Disney will be hosting several events, a technical showcase on February 23rd and a development event on March 23rd.  With a virtual upfront event taking place on May 18th.

The technical event in February is called the “Disney Platform Technology Showcase”. It will highlight Disney’s technology investments and approach to data, measurement, ad experiences and transactions with marketers.   This event is aimed at advertisers and partners.

“There’s always been this notion of, ‘Disney’s a great storytelling company,’ but our technology and our capabilities and technology and data rival any of our competitors in this space.  So we want to make sure we get that story out, before we start talking about all the great content coming.”

Said Rita Ferro, president of advertising sales and partnerships at Disney.

While the event in March will be focused purely on programming to get advertisers and partners interesting in purchasing advertising.

“While we haven’t had a lot of content” because of Covid production shutdowns last year, “now we will have a bunch of content coming out,” on both linear and Hulu.

The Disney Advertising Sales will host the main “Upfront” event department and showcase content from Hulu, ABC, ABC News, Disney Channels Worldwide, Disney Digital, ESPN, ESPN+, Freeform, FX Networks and National Geographic.  Usually, this annual event occurs at the New York’s Lincoln Center, but it will be a virtual event.

“We are going to put all of our eggs into this one presentation and speak to the Disney platform across all platforms and screens and experiences,”

The May event will be when we learn much more about Disney’s summer slate of shows for its networks and streaming platforms, which will also impact what comes to Disney+ internationally and on Star+ in Latin America.

Because Hulu is taking part in these Disney events, it will no longer appear at the NewFronts event, which it has been apart of for 10 years.

What are you hoping to see from Disney this summer?
