Nielsen has released its latest Media Distributor Gauge data for June 2024, which takes a look at how much of each studio’s content is being watched. According to June’s Media Distributor Gauge, Disney once again topped the chart with the largest share of television viewing across linear and streaming platforms.

Disney has the latest share among all of the distributors, with 10.8% of the viewership, which is slightly down on last month’s 11.4%. Disney once again beat YouTube, which had 9.9% and NBCUniversal at 8.5%. While Paramount dropped out of the top four, with Netflix raising into fourth place following the success of the latest season of “Bridgeton”.

Unlike most viewership charts, which usually just focus on either streaming or linear viewing, this data highlights how, when combined, the legacy media studios are still more popular than Netflix, which dominates the streaming viewership, but has no linear viewership.

One of the biggest issues with how people view Disney content is that it’s so spread out across different platforms like Hulu and Disney+, and channels like ABC, FX, National Geographic, etc, but when combined, Disney content is much more watched than anything else, including YouTube.

Disney continued to get higher viewership due to the finals of the NBA season on ESPN and ABC, while Disney+ viewership rose 15% over the previous month due to the school holidays.  Though that will likely drop off in the Fall, however ABC and ESPN might be able to fill in the gap with new original programming.

Do you think Disney will be able to keep YouTube in second place?  Let me know on social media!
