One of the most popular Star Wars series released on Disney+ has been “Andor”, which explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make.

The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

The first season was released on Disney+ in September 2022, and filming for the second and final season of “Andor” began a couple of months later in the United Kingdom.

Back at last year’s Star Wars Celebration event, the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, was expecting the show to arrive on Disney+ about a year after filming concluded, which was originally scheduled to be in August 2023, as they will need to spend a lot of time on post-production creating all the special effectors for the show.

However, filming was cut short following the actor’s strike. During last night’s Emmy Awards, Diego Luna confirmed in multiple interviews with the Trades that he is returning to England this week to finish filming.  He said there are about seven more days of filming to do in order to wrap production.

He also joked about how they had to put the wrap party on hold when the strikes began, asking the venue to hold their deposit and saying they’d be back once they finished.

With filming not set to complete until later this month, a 2024 release is very unlikely.  While some post-production and visual effects have likely already begun on some of the series during the last six months, Disney hasn’t confirmed that the second season of “Andor” will be coming out this year, as it has done with “Skeleton Crew” and “The Acolyte”.

Plus, with Disney looking to stretch out its Star Wars Disney+ releases, to help reduce franchise fatigue, shifting the final season of “Andor” into 2025, will help save money by spreading out the content a little, especially as Lucasfilm is busy working on some new films, including “The Mandalorian & Grogu” and the upcoming “Rey” movie.

While we wait for the second season of “Andor”, you can catch the first season on Disney+ now, along with ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
