Disney CEO Bob Iger has been very open about how they want to utilise their existing franchises and reduce the amount of generic general entertainment content it creates, so it should come as no surprise to hear that Disney is once again reaching into its big bag of established franchises for a new series.

According to Deadline, 20th Television is in early development of a new “Prison Break” series for Hulu, which will be written and executive produced by “Mayans M.C” co-creator, Elgin James, who will be making the project under his Sierra Drive banner. This new series is part of Elgin’s overall deal with 20th Television.

This new version has been described as a new chapter and is set within the world of “Prison Break”, though the details of the series haven’t been fully revealed. It’s thought that this new series will have a brand new cast, so Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell aren’t expected to return to their roles, but it probably wouldn’t be a shock to see some cameos!

“Prison Break” originally debuted in 2009 and tells the story of Michael Scofield, who goes to prison to try to save the life of his only brother Lincoln, who is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. The show ran for five seasons, and those are now available to stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ around the world. As with other Hulu Originals, we should expect this series to also be released internationally as a Star Original on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.

The new version will be executive produced by “Prison Break” creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring and the original series’ executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz.

With the show still in early development, it might be a while until it hits our screens, that’s if it makes it through the development process.
