Today, Netflix has revealed that all of the Marvel series featuring the Defenders characters, including Daredevil, will be leaving Netflix globally on March 1st 2022.

This includes the following series:

  • Daredevil (Seasons 1-3)
  • Jessica Jones (Seasons 1-3)
  • Luke Cage (Seasons 1-2)
  • Iron Fist (Seasons 1-2)
  • The Defenders (Limited Series)
  • The Punisher (Seasons 1-2)

These series all show removal notices within Netflix, which are only shown on the first watch on a new profile, otherwise, the notices don’t appear.  I’ve checked this myself, and the messages appeared on Netflix in the UK, and I’ve also confirmed this with What’s On Netflix.

Update: Netflix have confirmed that the series will be removed and will revert back to Disney.

It’s likely, that these series will be moved over to Disney’s own streaming services at some point in the future, but nothing yet has been confirmed.

Due to the maturity ratings of these series, it’s likely that in the United States, these shows will be available on Hulu.  However, with the recent push into general entertainment, it’s possible that they could be moved over to Disney+, as they would be more at home within the Marvel section on Disney+.

Internationally, I’d expect these series to arrive on Disney+ at some point in the future, since Disney+ has mature-rated shows.

All of these shows were cancelled before the release of Disney+ as Marvel Studios took control of the TV side of Marvel.

The Netflix Marvel shows were created by Disney’s ABC for Netflix.  But now it looks as if the license has expired, and Disney is taking back the shows.

Recently, Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, made an appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, and Kingpin appeared as the main villain in the Disney+ Original series, “Hawkeye”.  So it would make sense for these series to be readily available since they are considered part of the larger MCU, and the characters will be featured in upcoming Disney+ shows like “She-Hulk”.

Currently, Disney hasn’t officially that the shows will be coming to Disney+ or Hulu, but hopefully, an announcement will be coming soon.

Where do you think Daredevil and the other Defenders will end up?
