Andscape Picks Up “Hoops, Hopes & Dreams” For Hulu & Disney+

Disney’s Andscape has picked up the short documentary, “Hoops, Hopes & Dreams, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and most recently won the best documentary short award at the 2025 Cleveland International Film Festival.

The short tells the untold story about how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and an all-star team of civil rights activists took to basketball courts to rally young voters while winning hearts of communities, and how their strategy has echoed in contemporary politics.

It has been directed by Glenn Kaino, who said in a statement regarding Andscape acquiring the rights to the film:

“’Hoops, Hopes & Dreams‘ is a story about movement making and meeting people where they are, highlighting the value of life and the timelessness of the fight for justice. It is a peek into a playbook of change. I think it’s vitally important for us all to feel connected and together in the fight for a future that reflects our image of equality.”

This film has been produced by the late Michael Latt, along with Alexys Feaster, Glenn Kaino, Jesse Williams and Afshin Shahidi. Michael’s parents, Michelle Satter and David Latt, also said in a statement to Variety, regarding the release of the documentary.

“Our son Michael Latt, together with director and producer Glen Kaino, embraced ‘Hoops, Hopes & Dreams’ as a story of positivity, resilience and the power of community, something the world has always needed. If Michael were here, he would join in celebrating this partnership with Andscape as the kind of collaboration he believed in: using the universal language of sports to bring people together and highlight how shared experiences can build lasting connection and unity.”

Additional executive producers for the film include Nana Kwame ‘Alvin’ Bekoe, Dr. Jatali Bellanton, Melissa Chung, Joshua Dubois, Institute for Freedoms, Inc., Sam Ibrahim, Khris & Britney Middleton, D. Watkins, Parable, and Kevin Iwashina. Dr. King Jr.’s daughter Dr. Bernice King, who serves as an executive producer on the project, also added:

“I am deeply honored to join the ‘Hoops, Hopes & Dreams’ team as an executive producer during this incredible partnership with Andscape and The Walt Disney Company. This project is a powerful way to carry forward my father’s legacy, a beautiful representation of his unwavering belief in the ‘beloved community’ and his dream of building a society where we all live together in a human family as teammates. I’m thrilled to continue honoring him through this short film, and I want to thank the filmmakers for this opportunity to help share his vision and inspire future generations.”

Jason Aidoo, VP and head of Andscape, which is Disney’s Black-led media platform that is dedicated to creating, highlighting, and uplifting the diverse stories of Black identity, also spoke about the acquisition of the documentary:

“This film is a celebration as much as it is a revelation. ‘Hoops, Hopes & Dreams’ beautifully captures the joy, hope, and unity that basketball sparked within a movement — connecting the power of sport and community with a legacy of social justice in a way that feels both deeply human and profoundly inspiring. We’re honored to share this story with audiences everywhere.”

“Hoops, Hopes & Dreams” will be released under the Andscape Films banner and will premiere on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ at a later date. As with other Andscape films, I’d also expect it to be released on Disney+ around the world.
