You’ll Need A Disney+ Subscription To Keep Up With The Marvel Cinematic Universe
With Disney+ set to launch next week, the Disney executives are busy promoting the new streaming service, including Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige, who spoke with Bloomberg about the upcoming Marvel projects for Disney+.
One of the things Disney+ is offering Marvel Studios is a way of giving more time to characters by having more projects that we would usually see on the big screen alone.
‘Yes, great, but what about this character and this character and this character?’ ”
This will be a big change from the most recent Marvel TV series like Daredevil, Inhumans, Runaways or Agents of Shield, which were part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but had no impact on the events in the movies.
Back at the time of Avengers: Infinity War premiere in 2018, Kevin spoke with the stars of the movie about his ideas and laid out plans for new series featuring Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet witch) and Paul Bettany (Vision).
Kevin Feige also revealed that he was more nervous about his Hawkeye Disney+ series pitch to Jeremy Renner, since Marvel had a deal for a solo Hawkeye movie. Renner turned out to be fine with the change. “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Feige recalls.
One key point in the interview was that if you want to understand everything in future Marvel movies, Kevin Feige has said you’ll probably need a Disney+ subscription, because events from the new shows will factor into forthcoming films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Scarlet Witch will be a key character in that movie, and Feige points out that the Loki series will tie in, too.
“I’m not sure we’ve actually acknowledged that before,” he says. “But it does.”
There will be lots of new Marvel live action series coming to Disney+ over the next few years including:
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
- Loki
- WandaVision
- Hawkeye
- Moonknight
- She-Hulk
- Ms Marvel
There will also be an animated series called “What If”.
Marvel is going to be one of the major selling points for Disney+ and they are investing heavily in these series.
