Harry Houdini, was born Ehrich Weiss in 1874 and became legendary for his daring escapes from handcuffs, straitjackets, and submerged containers. Houdini’s career began in the late 19th century, and he quickly gained fame for his astonishing feats. Despite his success, Houdini also faced his share of controversy and criticism. Some accused him of trickery and deception, but his unwavering dedication to his craft and his ability to entertain audiences solidified his legacy as one of the greatest magicians of all time.
According to Deadline, this new spy thriller film is going to be called “Becoming Houdini”, and it’s going to be produced by Scott Sanders (Black Dynamite) and Danny Strong (Dopesick).
The movie is being written by Michael Finch and Alex Litvak, who have previously worked on “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “The Three Musketeers”.
It will also be produced by Mara Jacobs (In The Heights) for Sanders’ production company SGS Pictures. Oren Aviv (National Treasure) and Mandy Safavi (Dopesick) will also be executive producers. Jessica Virtue will oversee the film for Walt Disney Studios.
Since the project is still in the early stages, no casting details have been revealed, nor has it been confirmed if this film will get a theatrical release or if it will be a Disney+ Original film.
Roger’s Take: “Becoming Houdini” sounds like an interesting idea, and it’s great to hear Disney is developing something a little different from an established franchise.
