The Rock Shares Behind The Scenes Look At Recording Disney’s “Moana 2”
This coming Thanksgiving, Disney is releasing “Moana 2” in cinemas, and it is set three years after her first voyage, where Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui. She is joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Back at the Investor Day event in 2020, Disney announced it was creating a new “Moana” series for Disney+, but earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the show was so good that it was being readjusted to a theatrical release as a movie.
With the project going through some last-minute changes, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has taken to social media to post a photo of himself in the voice-over booth, recording some new lines for the upcoming movie.
Bringing MAUI🪝 back to life for MOANA 2!
So much fun becoming MAUI again – a character that changed my life in many ways – including the character of MAUI being inspired by my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia.
The Polynesian cultural significance of the role and our story has touched families around the world and has easily become one of my truest honors to bring to life and share.
New characters, new journeys, new music.
Excited for you and your families around the world to join us on this journey.
You will feel the mana.
Dave Derrick Jr. is directing the new movie, which will feature music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
“Moana 2” is coming to cinemas on November 27th, 2024, and we should expect to see the movie released on Disney+ in 2025.
The first film is also available to stream on Disney+ now and is one of the most-watched movies across all the different streaming services.
