The Bad Batch take on one more mission from Cyd after finally recovering their ship but it allows them to learn more about the Empire’s covert cloning operation in the latest episode of the Lucasfilm and Disney+ Original Series, “Star Wars: The Bad Batch.” Hunter, Wrecker, Tech and Omega think they will just be scavenging a crashed ship for cargo but end up discovering a creature that had been cloned using Kaminoan technology. Meanwhile, Nala Se is refusing to cooperate with the Empire when it comes to continuing her cloning work, but the Empire has brought in the former Kaminoan Prime Minister to learn more about ways to motivate Nala Se.

This episode has done what I thought might be impossible for this series, it made me care about Omega. So far, Omega has just been there as the cute kid to make this kids show that adults also watch still appeal to kids. Now, with the revelation that the Empire needs to hunt down Omega as a way to motivate Nala Se, she is finally appealing… as bait. She’s still an annoying character who brings down the actual missions of the Bad Batch, but she has a purpose that affects the rest of the show. She has completed her Dawn from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” arc from annoying new addition to important character because of the villain.

This episode also helps tie into a broader, overarching story. The Empire is moving away from clones to stormtroopers, but what happens to the clones? The Bad Batch has always been a crew that can do its own thing but now they are enemies of the Empire. It seems clear, especially through their interactions with Rex, that they will be working to help the regular clones in some way. What way will that be? I don’t know, but the last few episodes have finally gotten me invested in the answer to that question as a viewer.

While we are learning more about the Empire and the Bad Batch’s mission, I still want to know more about Crosshair and Cody. They appeared together in one episode and then suddenly Cody went missing. Where is he? What is next for Crosshair as he has made it clear that he is with the Empire despite his time as a member of the Bad Batch and their shared fight on Kamino. I hope we can revisit them before the season is over and see how all of these stories interconnect.
