Recently, Disney has upgraded the classic 1980s film, “Splash”, to a 4K High Definition version on Disney+.

Tom Hanks stars as Allen Bauer, a workaholic who’s convinced he can’t fall in love…until he’s mysteriously rescued at sea by the mermaid of his dreams. Soon Allen and Madison (Daryl Hannah) are swept away by a hilarious and heartwarming romance. Ron Howard directs a star-studded cast, including Eugene Levy and hilarious John Candy, in a magical tale. Contains tobacco depictions.

But, and that’s the key word here, as when Disney+ launched, there was some backlash to some scenes in the film being edited, to blur out a scene where Daryl Hannah runs into the ocean, and in the original version, you could see her bum.   At the time, Disney+ was very different to how it is now, since it was still in its early days of being a “family-friendly” streaming service, where very little could be shown or said.

Since that time, Disney+ has gone through some major changes, with rated R and Mature content now being available on the platform.

So the good news for some fans, is that the new 4K version of “Splash”, is now they’ve unblurred that scene with Daryl Hannah running into the ocean naked.

Having the 4K version of the film is obviously a big improvement for those with compatible television and is part of a continued roll-out of films in the 4K format.
