Sarah Polley In Talks To Direct Disney’s “Bambi” Live-Action Remake
Disney has had lots of success with making live-action versions of its animated classics, with “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, and “The Lion King” all being huge box office hits.
And once again, Disney is looking to the past for a new film version of its classic 1942 film, “Bambi”. According to Deadline, Sarah Polley is in talks to direct the film, having recently won Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for “Women Talking”. Sarah has previously “Stories We Tell” and “Take This Waltz”.
Disney started developing a live-action version of “Bambi” back in 2020 and brought in Screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who previously worked on “Captain Marvel” and Lindsey Beer, who recently worked on “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”. An the film will be produced by Depth of Field, which Chris and Paul Weitz run. And recently, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster have wrote the most recent draft of the script. Though with the writer’s strike in place, it’s unknown how far along the project is right now.
It’s also unknown if this will be a film released in cinemas like “The Little Mermaid” and “Cinderella”, or if it will be a straight-to-Disney+ release like “Lady And The Tramp” or “Peter Pan & Wendy”.
This new film is set to feature music from six-time Grammy-winning country star Kacey Musgraves.
Much like “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book”, this movie will use photo-realistic CGI to create the animals. Bambi’s tale unfolds from season to season as the young prince of the forest learns about life, love, and friends.
In the meantime, you can watch the original 1942 classic film on Disney+ now.
