Marvel Executive Gives Update On “Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” Disney+ Series
One of the many animated series Marvel Studios is currently working on is “Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man”, which was previously known as “Spider-Man: Freshman Year”.
This new series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, starting with his freshman year of high school. Peter’s journey in the series will be unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
This new series has been written and executive produced by Jeff Trammel, who has previously worked on “Craig Of The Creek”. The animation on the series is being created by Japanese digital animation studio, Polygon Pictures, who have previously worked on Apple’s “Stillwater”, along with “Ajin”, “Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei”, “Mech Cadets”, and “Transformers: War for Cybertron”.
The new series will see Hudson Thames providing the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, along with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who will be reprising their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin.
During a recent appearance on the official Marvel podcast, Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, shared an update on the upcoming series.
“There are twists and turns in that show that are amazing, but the real power is the ensemble, is the neighbourhood.
The showrunner is Jeff Trammel who made a show called Craig of the Creek which is a kid’s cartoon that spent seasons in the connected backyards of this neighbourhood and had this whole mythology that grew out of it and characters you grew to care for over the course of the series.
He’s amped that up in such a major way playing with characters like, not just Peter Parker, Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln, and my personal favourite, Harry Osborn, and others that flesh out this teenage ensemble. It’s really incredible.”
No official release date for “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” has been announced yet, though its expected to arrive on Disney+ later this year, but things could still change.
