“The Devil Wears Prada 2” Becomes Massive Streaming Hit For Disney+ & Hulu

Late last month, Disney released the box office hit, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” on Hulu and Disney+ around the world.

In the new film, Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) returns to Runway magazine as the new features editor, where she finds her formidable former boss Miranda (Meryl Streep) facing threats to her glossy print empire. Familiar frenemies and fresh faces join the catwalk in this stylish sequel.

After pulling in just under $700 million at the global box office, the film has also been a massive success on Disney’s streaming platforms, pulling in 15.2 million views globally, within its first five days on Hulu and Disney+.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” reached 15.2 million views globally in its first five days of streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

Making it the biggest live-action movie debut on Disney+ since “Deadpool & Wolverine” in 2024, which pulled in 19.4 million views within its first six days. Unfortunately, Disney keeps giving different parameters for its streaming data, making it hard to compare directly.

The sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, and is directed by David Frankel, written by Aline Brosh McKenna, produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Roger’s Take: This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise; big hits in cinemas tend to also become just as popular on streaming, not just because people like to watch the movie again, but also because there is a huge audience of people waiting for the streaming release. This continued success highlights why Disney’s strategy for its films is working; they are getting both streaming and box office success.
