Disney has announced a brand new drama series “Sam – A Saxon”, which will be coming to Disney+ in Germany as a “Star Original”.

This true-life drama has been greenlit and is being created by Big Window Productions.  This is the real-life story of Samuel Meffire, East-Germany’s first black police officer. The series shows how Meffire became a media sensation and a symbol of modern society in the post-reunification 1990s.  But just a few years later, he ended up behind bars himself, as an enemy of the state.

The show is part of a new wave of European shows exclusively made for Disney+.  “Star” will be a brand new general entertainment brand that will launch on Disney+ on Tuesday 23rd February.  It will contain more mature content from Disney’s brands like 20th Century Studios, FX, ABC, in addition to local content.

Projects span multiple genres including drama, comedy, sci-fi and documentary, and have been greenlit in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, with a raft of additional projects in development.

Sam – A Saxon is produced by International Emmy Award-winner Jörg Winger (Deutschland 83) and Tyron Ricketts.

No release date for “Sam – A Saxon” has yet been announced.
