During the Designing the X-Men: A This Week in Marvel Special Event panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con event currently underway, some new details on the upcoming animated Disney+ Original series “X-Men ’97” have been revealed by the shows executive producer Beau DeMayo, supervising producer Jake Castorena, and the director Larry Houston.

This all-new animated series from Marvel Studios explores new stories in the iconic 90s timeline of the original series and is due to arrive soon on Disney+.

Larry Houston assured fans that the new “X-Men ’97” Disney+ series would pick up the torch from the original series.

“You have an entire crew working on this show that are all dedicated fans to the mythology and the lore and legacy of the X-Men. And everyone who’s involved really believes in the story and the characters. I think you guys are going to really enjoy it when it comes on the air.”

Following the panel, Beau DeMayo and Jake Castorena also made an appearance in a video talking about how fans in attendance at the panel got to see a never-before-seen clip from its first episode and how they loved seeing the reactions from the fans for the first time.

“[It’s] a bit of good relief to get that first little bit of pulse out there, to see the reactions in real time.  Also, just being able to get this back to the team who’s been working really hard on this and get to relay that to them too.”

Unfortunately, Disney isn’t planning on releasing this clip to the public, but Jake did explain what fans got to see during the panel:

“We showed a clip from the first episode that shows the X-Men going off [on] a mission to confront a new Sentinel threat.  And mid-mission they are unexpectedly attacked and have to use their Danger Room practice skills to save themselves.”

Beau DeMayo also confirmed that they are still working on the first season of “X-Men ’97” and gave a tiny update on the second season.

“[Production] is going really, really well. We’re just in post-production on Season 1 and [right now] writing the finale for Season 2,” said Beau. “I cannot be happier.”

The new “X-Men ’97” series will star many of the voice talents from the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, and Christopher Britton.  The new show will also feature the voices of Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.

While we wait for the new “X-Men ’97” series to arrive on Disney+ later this year, you can catch the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” right now on Disney+.
