Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” Disney+ Series Will Set Up “Armor Wars” Film
The next Marvel Studios series to arrive on Disney+ later this year is “Secret Invasion”, which is a new crossover event series is based on the comic book series of the same name and showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos—characters who first met in “Captain Marvel.” Along with Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, plus Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. The series will be written and executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet , who has previously worked on “Mr Robot”. The six-episode series is going to be directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim.
“Secret Invasion” will also star Don Cheadle, who will be reprising his role of Colonel James Rhodes, aka War Machine and recently during a recent interview with Total Film, Don shared an update on how “Secret Invasion” will set up the upcoming film, “Armor Wars”.
“It’s bananas! And it’s very expansive. And obviously now that everyone can show up in everybody else’s story… I mean, I’m in ‘Secret Invasion’. So I’m in Sam [Jackson]’s show. There’s a part of that, that kicks off what happens in Armor Wars.”
Don also shared his thoughts on how the upcoming “Armor Wars” film will give fans more of an insight into the character:
“I don’t think we’ve ever really dug into him, and now it’s an opportunity to really explore his emotional life, his interior life, his relationships, his trajectory, where he wants to go, what his challenges are. Obviously, you have to pay off the Marvel stuff. And be in the lore of the mythology of the character and the MCU in general. But trying to really build out this character and make him a three-dimensional dude… is what the goal [is]. So I’m excited about that.”
Originally, “Armor Wars” was going to be a Disney+ series, but Marvel has decided to release it as a film instead, as it has begun re-evaluating some of its future releases and is taking steps to establish more quality control moving forward. Don shared his thoughts on all the different characters appearing in different shows and films.
“So yeah, it can go on and on and on… hopefully it doesn’t get spread too thin. And there’s still some quality control and not just trying to expand for expansion’s sake. But there’s a clear idea about the storytelling and what you’re trying to accomplish with every iteration.”
We’ve already seen the shapeshifting Skrulls appear in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Captain Marvel”, but this upcoming “Secret Invasion” series looks like it’s going to have a more significant impact on the MCU than can be contained within one series.
While we wait for “Secret Invasion” to arrive on Disney+ later this year, you can check out some of the previous exploits of War Machine in many of the films on Disney+, including “Captain America: Civil War” and the “Iron Man” trilogy.
