This coming January, Disney is releasing a brand new Marvel Studios series on Disney+ called “Echo”, which is a new series that tells the origin story of Echo, aka Maya Lopez, who was introduced in the Disney+ series, “Hawkeye”.  The new series focuses on Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

According to a new listing in the U.S. Copyright Catalog for the first episode has given us a short synopsis:

“Marvel Studios presents “Echo” in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) aka Kingpin. In the first episode we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles.”

The listing also gives some further details on the series, including the director is Sydney Freeland and that it was filmed in Atlanta.  The cast includes Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin,  Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Graham Greene as Skully, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Devery Jacobs as Bonnie and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.

Originally, the series was going to be released in November 2023, but it has been pushed back to January 2024 due to multiple reasons, including the actors/writers’ strikes, and Disney also wanting to slow down the release schedule for Marvel projects to reduce franchise fatigue.   “Echo” will also break with the tradition and with the entire season being dropped at once in a binge drop.

However, with the ongoing actors’ and writers’ strikes, plus with Disney planning on reducing the amount of Marvel projects being released each year, there were reports that the show was delayed into early 2024.
