Earlier this year, Disney released a brand new series based on the popular “Mighty Ducks” franchise, which saw many of the original actors from 1990s film return for the Disney+ series, including Emilio Estevez and Elden Henson.
However, not every actor from the original film appeared in the Disney+ series. Still, with a second season set to go into production in early 2022 and with Emilio not returning for the show, Disney will likely want to bring back some other well-known actors to fill the voice.
The revival series is set in present-day Minnesota. The Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay, they rediscover the joys of playing just for the love of the game.
Recently, Kenan Thompson, spoke with TVLine, to promote his newest series, “Kenan”, and was asked about returning as Russ Tyler for the second season.
“I would love to do it if they can figure it out. I told [Game Changers showrunner Steve Brill] I wanted to do Season 1, but they ended up having to do it without my participation [due to scheduling]. There’s only one me. I can only be in one place at a time.”
He added that when the schedules do align, though, he promises:
“I will do my best, because I still can skate.”
Kenan Thompson starred in the two “Mighty Ducks” sequels, “D2” and “D3” films. This was his first role, and he has since appeared in many movies and series, including “Saturday Night Live”.
The entire first season of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” and the first three films are all available to stream on Disney+.
