Has “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” Been Renewed For A Third Season?
In November, Disney released the final episode from the second season of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” was released on Disney+ worldwide.
The first season is set in present-day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), they rediscover the joys of playing just for love of the game. This first season was released on Disney+ during the spring of 2021.
In the second season, after winning back the Mighty Ducks team name last year, our squad-with-heart and their coach Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) take to the road to attend an intense summer hockey institute in California run by charming yet hardcore former NHL player, Colin Cole (Josh Duhamel). It’s a place for kids to get excellent at hockey — without school to get in the way. As our Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the question: Can you win summer? The second season was released on Disney+ in the Fall of 2022.
Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t officially announced if the show will be returning for a third season, but the second season finale did end up setting up a potential third season. And it took Disney over two months after the season one finale before it announced the second season was ordered.
The chances of a renewal for a third season might not be a dead-cert, since the second season didn’t make as much impact as the first season. One reason for this might have been because Emilio Estevez didn’t return for the second season, due to conflicts over a vaccine mandate required during the time the second season was being created. The lack of Emilio did take out lots of the online discussion about the series. It was also noticeable that Disney was doing much less publicity to promote the show.
With the child actors growing up, Disney will need to get a potential third season filmed pretty soon, so hopefully, Disney will confirm if the show is returning soon.
In the meantime, both previous seasons of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” and the original trilogy of movies are available to stream on Disney+.
