Disney will broadcast the entire first season of the Disney+ Original series, “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”, on the FreeForm linear television channel in the United States on New Year’s Day, 1st January 2023.

In the 10-episode “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” season set in present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), they rediscover the joys of playing just for love of the game.

The series features a talented new team of up-and-coming young actors, including Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham, and DJ Watts.

“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” is produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. Steve Brill, the original creator, writer and executive producer of all three films, which spawned an NHL franchise, returned as co-creator and executive producer of the new series. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa (“The King of Queens,” “13 Going On 30”) are co-creators and served as executive producers and showrunners. Michael Spiller served as executive producer / director on the series, with James Griffiths serving as director/EP on the Pilot. Emilio Estevez is an executive producer, and Lauren Graham is co-executive producer. George Heller and Brad Petrigala of Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Jon Avnet, and Jordan Kerner served as non-writing executive producers.

This marks the first time the series has entirely aired on linear television following its initial release on Disney+ in Spring 2021.

Disney has recently changed its strategy with its original programming after its first run on Disney+, sharing many of them across its streaming services, such as Disney+ and Hulu, along with linear networks. This allows Disney to get more value out of these originals, by offsetting some of the costs from the streaming division to linear divisions, but it also provides additional revenue with advertising and provides the linear channels with new programming for viewers, without the full expense of creating new content and more importantly, gives linear viewers with a brand new show to enjoy.

All ten episodes will be shown back to back from 4 pm on Freeform. Both seasons of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” are available to stream now on Disney+.
