Disney+ is set to get a brand new Marvel animated series called “What If”, which is based on the popular What If comic book series.   This new animated show will be overseen by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, however much like the comic book series, these will not be not be canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The comic book series allows writers freedom to come up with “What If” storylines, such as “What If… Professor X Had Become The Juggernaut?” and “What If… Spider-Man’s Parents Destroyed His Family?”

According to a rumor from /Film:

The idea is that they could potentially have some of the main actors from the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe movies reprise their roles in the animated series, which would imagine alternate possibilities from another dimension. The time commitment for voice acting is a whole lot less than for live-action productions, which could accommodate some of the biggest Marvel talent. The series would function as an anthology, just like the comic book series, with each episode tackling a different premise.

This new series would give Marvel plenty of freedom to explore their characters, without the restriction of keeping things within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I’ve been a big fan of the “What If” comic book series for years, since its completely different style and can be something that you can just drop into without worrying about what else has gone before it.

Only recently, Marvel announced new animated series based on “The Offenders”, which includes Howard The Duck, that will be coming to Hulu.  So Marvel seem to be happy to deliver more “adult” themed animated series and it could be a great addition to Disney+.

What do you think of a “What If” animated Marvel series coming to Disney+?
