Hulu is developing a new feature-length documentary about Diane von Furstenberg, who is an influential fashion designer who popularized the women’s wrap dress.   According to Variety, the documentary tells the story of the now 76-year-old, which through sheer determination, she overcame any challenge thrown her way, including sexism, the perils of immigrating to America, industry highs and lows, a public divorce and even a bout with cancer.

This new film will use archival footage and intimate interviews to take a deep dive into the life and career of von Furstenberg, who forged a path for herself in a male-dominated industry and built a multi-million-dollar fashion empire.

Diane von Fürstenberg is a Belgian fashion designer best known for her wrap dress. She initially rose to prominence in 1969 when she married into the German princely House of Fürstenberg, as the wife of Prince Egon von Fürstenberg.  Her fashion company is called Diane von Furstenberg (DvF).  Her designs have been worn by a variety of different celebrities, including Michelle Obama, Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna and Whitney Houston.

Obaid-Chinoy and Dalton said:

“We feel strongly that Diane’s story of perseverance and global leadership needs to be shared now more than ever.  Over the last 50 years, she has fiercely triumphed, shattered glass ceilings and opened doors for women everywhere… all while living life on her own terms. We hope that this story inspires the next generation.”

This new documentary is going to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chino and Trish Dalton.   No release date or title has been announced. It’s also not clear if this will be released internationally on Disney+.  Sutter Road Picture Company and Particle Projects will be producing the documentary. Additional producers include Fabiola Beracasa Beckman, Tracy Aftergood, Obaid-Chinoy and Sean Stuart.
