Hulu Acquires Australian Series “Crazy Fun Park”
Disney has announced that it has picked up the Australian comedy-horror series, “Crazy Fun Park”, for Hulu, which will be released on the streaming service in the United States for its Huluween celebrations on October 1st 2023.
The limited series tells the story of two best friends, Chester and Mapplethorpe, so close that even death can’t keep them apart. After Mapplethorpe is killed at an abandoned theme park, Chester discovers that his friend’s soul has stuck around, along with the ghosts of other teenagers who have died at the fun park since 1979.
“Crazy Fun Park” boasts an exciting cast of young, emerging Australian talent, including Henry Strand as Chester, Stacy Clausen as Mapplethorpe, Hannah Ogawa as Violetta, Justin Holborow as Remus, Pedrea Jackson as Nimrod, Charli Wookey as Siobhan, Jason Thompson as Zed, Georgia La Belle as Destinee, Lee Halley as Gonzo and Ziggy Zilberman-Sharp as Tigger plus appearances from a venerable adult guest cast including Judith Lucy, Kim Gyngell, Katherine Tonkin, Bernard Curry, Alexandra Schepisi, Kuni Hashimoto, Alicia Banit, Simon Burke, Sally-Anne Upton, Anne Charleston and Rachael Maza.
The show was filmed in a custom-designed theme park, built in Altona by acclaimed production designer, Paddy Reardon (Muriel’s Wedding, Chopper, Underbelly). It was produced by Werner Film Productions and is sold by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. It was created by Nicholas Verso, and directed by Verso and Sarah Hickey.
“Crazy Fun Park” previously aired on ABC in Australia earlier this year along with airing in many other countries, including Spain, Finland, Norway, Lithuania, Belgium, Slovenia, Taiwan, New Zealand and the UK.
With the ongoing actor’s and writer’s strikes, many studios are looking to acquire international shows to help boost viewership, since they can’t make any new scripted shows in the US right now.
