Back at the Disney Investor Day virtual event in 2020, FX announced it was developing a brand new series based on the popular 20th Century Studios franchise, “Alien”.

Over the past few years, since the initial announcement, we’ve not heard too much about the new project, but we do know, that the new “Alien” series is being created by Noah Hawley and is set not too far into our future, and it’s the first Alien story set on Earth. It blends both the timeless horror of the first “Alien” film with the non-stop action of the second and will take place before Ripley.

During a recent FX panel during the Television Critics Association Winter Tour, FX Chief John Landgraf provided a quick update on the new “Alien” series, stating that the long-awaited project will finally begin shooting this year.

“Noah is currently in production on the fifth season of Fargo but he’s in active preproduction on Alien, he’s written scripts. I think he’s meeting with his production designer in Austin this weekend, gearing up for production this year after he completes the fifth season of Fargo.”

With filming set to begin later this year, it’s likely we won’t see it arrive on our screens until next year, due to the number of special effects and other post-production issues.

This new “Alien” series will be coming to Hulu in the United States and will be released internationally on Disney+.  And the previous “Alien” films are available to stream now on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
