Disney is developing it’s fitst Dutch original feature film for Disney+ called “De ballonvaarder die uit de lucht kwam vallen” aka “The Balloonist who fell from the sky“, which is going to be directed by Tim Oliehoek.

The film is about the 37-year-old ornamental chicken farmer Gaby whose life is turned upside down when an airman crashes on the land next to her farm. She lives with her 6-year-old son Kuif, her grumpy mother Mientje and a depressed rooster called Bouillion. Gaby not only loses her heart, but also her grip on her own created world. “The balloonist who fell from the sky” is a moving story about letting go of love, mourning and acceptance.

The director, Tim Oliehoek said in a statement about the film: (Translated)

“After five cinema films, I have promised myself that I will only direct another feature film if it is really necessary. I believe that I have found that necessity as a director in this story.”

He also took to social media to confirm the news:

The new film will be released on Disney+ in 2025 and is being produced by Elbe Stevens Films.  It has been written by Benny Lindelauf. The cast for the film hasn’t yet been announced.
