Dumbo On Disney+ Hasn’t Had The Crow Scene Removed
One of the many “rumors” floating around about Disney+ was that Disney would be editing out the crow scene from the animated classic Dumbo.
The story caught mainstream attention as many objected to the idea of the movie being altered, however there was never any official confirmation that this was going to happen.
Dumbo wasn’t edited when Disney+ launched in the Netherlands, nor was the movie edited on the UK streaming service DisneyLife, which will become Disney+ in the UK and Ireland in March 2020.
And today, when Disney+ launched in the US and Canada, the movie once again was left untouched. However a small warning was added to the description:
“This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions”
This is similar to how Warner Brothers placed a disclaimer in front of episodes of “Tom and Jerry”, which also haven’t dated well. This should at least put the rumor that Disney was going to edit the movie, to rest.
So what
Good for Disney, doing it this way. To edit the movie would be to "whitewash" history and would seem like they were trying to make themselves look better rather than trying to correct bad stereotypes. It isn't helpful to ignore distasteful past, but rather to view it and learn from it in order to create a better future.
yeah that's basically all they would have to do for the original lady and the tramp fantasia and song of the south put a disclaimer at the beginning
You need more than a disclaimer for Song of the South. That is a truly disturbing movie.
