Disney Hosts “SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)” Premiere At The Sundance Film Festival
Just ahead of the release of the new documentary “SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)”, Disney hosted a special premiere event on the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival at the Eccles Theatre.
“SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)” examines the life and legacy of Sly & The Family Stone, the groundbreaking band led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone. The film captures the band’s rise, reign and subsequent fadeout while shedding light on the unseen burden that comes with success for Black artists in America.
The premiere was attended by the film’s director, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, along with the executive producers Joseph Patel and Derik Murray. Disney’s Onyx Collective President Tara Duncan was also in attendance along with Jihan Robinson, who is the VP, Documentary Film & Series at Onyx Collective.

“SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)” premieres on Thursday 13th February 2025 on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+. It’ll also be released on Disney+ for a limited period until February 23rd 2025.
